In chapter thirty1, I think that Jurgis tyring to persuade Maria to stop prostitution makes me mad. Its her life and she can do whatever she wants. I mean if shes making a better life for herself, then she can do whatever. The main reason is because shes addicted to morphine. Which is understandable to me because drugs can and are addicting. I mean she can stop if she want but its just the drugs. It still makes me mad that all of a sudden he starts to talk about socialism. I like how no worker will HAVE to work more then they should. Basically I think that this chapter was boring; as well as it was not worth reading. Nothing happened and that's what makes me hate this book. Usually the ending is supposed to be the main thing and everything happens at the end and leaves you wondering, but this was a stupid ending and I hated it. I was expecting him to die or get badly hurt. It was a big downer on my day. Anyways this really upset me and this wasnt a good ending.

Response to Twenty9 and 30(:
In chapter 29, I feel like Hurgis found a friend. His name is Ostriniski. He then invites Jurgis to his house, after the meeting he wanted more information. I say their friends because they then begin to talk about their horrible experiences and thats what friends usually do. I think its funny how he calls the large and small capitalists "wage slavery". To me nothing realy stood out, so this is the end of my chapter 29.
In chapter 30, I like how he is starting to communicate with his family and Teta Elzbieta is agreeing to go to the socialist partys with Jurgos. It's a step in the right direction. I'm happy to read that Jurgis got a job in a hotel as a porter. It pays 30 dollars a month. I think its the best job hes ever had and he's moving uo in the world. The best part is that Jurgis's boss is the state organizer for the socialists meetings. Which I thought was really cool. Hinds tells Jurgis that he should tell him and everyone about the meat packing industry. I have to agree with him. I think that most, if not all; will stop eating the meat. Its not good to eat nor is it making you feel better.

REaction to twenty7 and 20eight.(:
Chapter 2seven, I thought that it was good how the strike ended. However, his bad times are only getting worse. I think its really sad how he become homeless again. He finally gets a job, but then gets fired from that job because he isnt strong enough. I think that's like discriminating towards him becasue he shouldnt be fired for something that he probably cant afford. Ughhhh it gets me mad that winter approches; He attends a political meeting and then gets thrown out because he falls asleep and starts to snore. He comes across a girl he once knew and she seems to me, to be pretty well off. She invites Jurgis to see other family and it just give me a tickle in my tummy. Ewwwww its soooo gross how Stainsloves dies. He falls asleep and then the rats come ant eat him that's just gross to me. I would not want that to happen to me. EVER! (:
Not gunna lie, I think its good that Maria goes into prostitutin becasue if your making money for your family then anything you can do will help. I mean I dont judge. He yet spends another night in jail. . . No suprise.
Chapter twenty8, I thought that lieing to get out of jail is a good idea until you get caught. Which I think he might, because he just loves going to jail. He is just going into soooooo much lieing. Im not sure I like it. I want him to be the way he was before. I just think he was much happier. It gets me very happy when I found out that Jurgis was walking and while he was walking he came across a political party, and he went in. As he was listening he fopund himself agreeing with everything. He finally felt that a political party was for once siding on his interests and ideas. (:

Reaction to tewnty6(:
In chapter 20six, I thought that the whole strike thign is totally expected. I mean if a place shuts down then yeah something is going to happen. However, Jurgis asks for more pay of three dollars a day, and recieves it. I think its a bit weird how the packers hire all the thugs; then hire a significant amount of Southern Blacks. Yayyyyy FINALLY things are looking up for Jurgis. He gets asked to be a boss for the killing beds. The packers are desperate to provide fresh meat to keep the public opinion good. I like that becasue now they are playing fair after Jurgis becomes boss. Jurgis then meets up with the man who raped his wife and e attacks him. Jurgis calls a friend from jail and discovers that Conner is one of Scully's favorites. This was a pretty intense chapter. I like is so far and I think more things are looking up for Jurgis but then I have a feeling that this is just the beginning of everything. Not a lot happened but if you think about it, many events happened to make this more fun. It makes me mad how hes in jail AGAIN. Can't this man ever stay out? But then again, like the prisinor said about how being in jail is keeping you alive. Soo I mean it goes both ways. I would not want to go to jail, nor be in Jurgis's position right now.

Reaction to 2three-Twenty5(:
In chapter 23, this made me super happy. Jurgis found a job diggin underground railroads and it made me feel very hopeful for him. I believe that Jurgis is probably feeling like how I feel about it. Very happy and that it will last till winter. Oh my goodness Christmas is my favorite holiday and it sadenes me that he had to spend it in the hospital from a broken arm, while working.
While reading 24, the main part for me was probably when Jurgis comes across a man and he helps him out and it makes me very happy. he offers to pay for his cab and offers him to dinner. Freddie treated Jurgis very nice, I know I would love to get a 100 dollar bill. I think its a hands up for Jurgis because it proves that there are nice people and that the world isnt as bad as it was cooked up to be. Stupid butler was being mean when he kicked him out of the house. I mean it was one night so I think that it wouldnt have been such a bad idea to let him stay there one night.
In chapter twentyfive, Well you darn right if the bartender jips me money im going to attack him. It was a bit wrong that he handled it in that way and it just made me super mad when Jurgis had to go to jail for it. I mean c'mon you just lost almost all your money, he had a right to act that way. In a weird way I agree with the other prisinors about the whole " Life of crime is a way to live." Because where there you get frd and you have a bed and ten days isnt that bad. Jurgis to me is doing anything in his power he can to survive. Honeslty id rather be dead like the whole situation about the man having a concussion and freezing to death is soooooooo outrangeous and it paints a ugly picture in my head that I dont wanna ever think about. Jurgis get another job as a hog trimmer and reciveves regular pay. He becomes part of a republican party, and I guess they won so Jurgis becomes 300 dollars richer, and then he goes and drinks and in Packintown its basically a celebration. (:

Tewnty, 21 and twenty2(:
In these chapters they were different. Jurgis got a job and what not and I give him kudos because he was trying to make it better for his family and I like the dedication he gives. Learning English was very big for me because it is important to communicate and I like that he is still pushing forward to learn it still. Its sad that the family's income comes from a 10 year old. I think its good for the 10 year old but for the parents it m,ust feel weird becasue then you would feel horrible about yourself. Its very joyful how the lady was trying to help Jurgis find a job after the life he's had. He can only go home on weekends but at least he has a job. Another person dies and It's definetly sad but you can learn to get through it.(: Jurgis trys to fight his emotions when he should just ask for help and not keep them bottled up. Haha when the farmer ask for hekp is very good to me. :(

Thanksgiving Reading.(: 7-19 <--------- Word.
Well my thanksgiving was amazing and here are the readiong we were supposed to do.(: Im almost finished with Go Ask Alice, it is such a good book!!!!!!
Chapter 7
My response to chapter seven, I think its sad how no one can take a break off work because they are in so much debt. I know it must be hard to do. Their getting sick because of their living conditions, I feel very blessed that I dont get sick because of where I live. I think its also how there is no heating in their work so its not really plesent to go to and that most of them become alcoholics. :/ Alcohol can do some mager damege to someone who isnt used to it.
Chapter 8
My response to chapter eight, Tamozious I think his name is reminds me of several people. I mean many of my friends I believe will be as successful as he is in dealing with his music. He likes it alot, also likes Marija. He proposes to her and I tihnk thats the cutest thing ever. She obviously accepts. Its sad how many workers lose their jobs becasue after the ruch of winter. I know I would be devestated if I had a job and I lost it.
Chapter 9
My response to chapter nine, This chapter was the most wonderful of them all!! I am so proud that Jurgis is learning English and his kids are helping him. It brings great joy to my fash to see people getting somewhere. I love this because I know how hard it is to learn another language. He become a U.S citizen! Yayyy(: This was also a chapter that repeated its self, because I thought Jurgos already knew about the mean and then it says that he realizes that unfit meat is packed in with the good. I mean its good to do that but also I like to learn new things.
Chapter 10
My response to chapter ten, I mean this is a bit outrageous only because I dont know how much the money situation is. I am comparing it to todays money and so trying to figure it out doesnt really make sense to me. This family is really srtuggling to keep their jobs. They have a job for a while then sometihng happens and it get ruined, then they get it back then get fired. I think if anything they need the jobs because if they are expecting a child they need money to do that to give it a good life/childhood. She gives birth to her healthy son, and then she names him after Jurgis' father.
Chapter 11
My response to chapter eleven, I think its sad that you are always having to worry about your job and how much you are getting paid and if your getitng paid for that week. I know I would be really mad if I didnt get paid for doing so much work. It would make me really mad. Hahahah I think its really funny how Ona I think? Sews her money into clothes, its a good idea but other then the fact that it weighs her down when she walks in the mud.
Chapter 12
My response to chapter twelve, it must really suck that Jurgis sprains his ankle and cannot return to work. That must really mess tihngs up with the family, not being able to bring home any money for the family. He also belives that the only way he can get the smile back on his face is by his infint son. Usually thats how it is for me. I also believe that Jurgis has been through a lot and yet he is doing everything in his power to make it better for him and his family. He got FROSTBITE! That have must really sucked for him. By getting frostbite it permently damages his joints in his fingers.
Chapter 13
My response to chapter thirteen, OH MY GOODNESS someone dies from the meat. That is what stood out the most for me, and it made iot really sad because she didnt really experience life and Jurgis didnt want to pay for a funeral. Its sad but then again I can understand where he is coming from, because he doesnt want to spend money on a dead person and also the fact that he doesnt want to bring back that bad memory.
Chapter 14
My response to chapter fourteen, It is starting to get the good part that they are finally realizing the real secrets of the meat packing industry. Its actually getting serious and down to the nitty gritty. It just grosses me out the fact about the meat. I want to be a vegitarian now.
Chapter 15
My response to chapter fifteen, I think its a bit outrageous that they are working 15 and 16 hour shifts. Jurgis to me is a very strong person becaus ehe has been through so much, noe dealing with his wife. I think its sad that her boss is making her be his mistress. After all Jurgis has done I dont tihnk he deserves what is happening to him. Then he is protective so he basically chokes Onas boss and then later he has to go down to the police station.. wow, I will keep saying it, but Jurgis has been theough alot.
Chapter 16
My response to chapter sixteen, Its sad that he is in jal on christmas eve and all he can do is think about the times hes had with Ona and walking with her and being with her. he begins to cry and I hate when guys cry so it just makes me even more sad when I find this out.
Chapter 17
My response to chapter seventeen, Wow he is sentenced to 30days in prison? Thats a bit harsh if you ask me. I hate how the man lied about what really happened with the Ona situation. It makes me very angry. I also dont like the fact that he cant work witch then he can not provide for his family and it will be very bad news bears... :(
Chapter 18
My response to chapter eighteen, This chapter is sad only because when he gets out of prison he then finds out that his family got evicted because they couldnt afford rent to live there and within a week they sold the house.
That's all for now, thank you very much for your time and patience.(:

Response To "Go Ask Alice" (:
Well curently I decided to read Go Ask Alice. So far so good. It sounds weid but I like books that are true because it makes it easier for me to believe. The part that I agreed with is the fact that she had troubles with math. She said she got mostly A's and B's and one C which was in math. Thats how mine should be and their not. Math really is a struggle and I got a C in math. I also dont know what its like to completely move away from everyone, she moved states and I dont think I would ever allow my parents to move to another state. I have so much here that I dont think I would leave. I like the fact that she has so much detail into her diary. I write in a diary as well and I know what its like when she said that that's like her friend and no on will ever read it. I understand that part and I can relate. The whole part about her losing weight and gaining it. I think yes it matters, but honestly if your healthy then she shouldnt worry. I can relate with her because I dont get along with my mom or dad very much. Some days are better than others. I like this book because i can relaate to it so much and it seems as if it could be my diary. Haha Also about the whole sex part, I dont believe teens should be doing it at that age. Thats my opinion though. I like this book and I want to continue reading this to see what happens. (:

The Jungle(:
My partners are Destiny Beaman and Alyssa Kargas.
I read Chapters four and five. Here are my comments and questions.(:
Chapter Four(:
1. Pg. 41 I think its great that he started working. I think its wrong how Jurgis get paid 17 and a half cents per hour earning only a dollar and a half per day.
2. Pg 44 and 45 They were talking about getting a house and and about rent.
3. Why would Jurgis want his children to go to school instead of getting a job?
4. Do you think Jurgis's reaction to the rent situation was reasonable or understandable?
5. Should he have flipped out that much?
Chpater Five(:
1. Pg 55 and 56 basically talking about where the family slep in the house.
1. Why wouldnt they get a house big enough for all of them to sleep comfortably and they woud all just have to pitch in?
2. I like how he likes his job while everybody else hates it. His opinion on this is hes making money and doin the best he can for his family to make sure they are alright.
3. Pg 62 and 63 I think this is gross because this is when Jurgis discovers that some of the unfit meat for people to eat is being put into the meat that is okay for humans to eat. They out it in so that the inspectors wont find it. I think this changes my mind and i want to be a vegitarian.
1. Does this make you change your mind about eating meat? Why or why not?
Mr. Boyd this is weird to say but if I wouldnt have read this book I dont think I would have known the stuff I found out and for that I thank you(: I enjoy reading books that have a point to get across. Kinda like Sammy & Juliana in Hollywoodd. Good book.(:

My topic for my argumentative essay is number 6. This topic asks me to create a reasoned argument that demonstrates why slavery is dehumanizing experiece for both the slave and the slave master. I think this is going to be good because I read the text and I know what to do. My counter argument would be that I do not like the dehuminizing process per say and here are the reasons. I will say why it is good in one opinion and why its a bad thingin my eyes.

My Reaction To The Rest Of 10(:
After reading that Douglass wasn't getting whipped anymore because he stood up for himself I felt very hopeful. This action made Douglass want to be free even more. I mean you just beat up your master and his friend, you darn right id feel very happy and who wouldn't want to be free after this?
Holiday break? What is this I mean yeah I know holidays are fun but what is there to do on a holiday when your a slave. Ha I laughed because its like ohh I beat you and your ranked with the animals but i'm still giving you holiday break, then you get to come back so I can beat you. Yeahh good present right? Rev Hopkins is very mean and just a bad person but he sayd he's soooooooo religious. I think that Douglass wanting to start a Sabboth School knowing he might get in troublwe gave him a lot af courage. I mean if I were in that situation then I wouldn't do it. Like risk something that I may or may not get in trouble for. I do that now, if I know something bad is going to happen with this action then I dont do it. Its just common sense right there.
Oh the joy on my face when i read that he was able to work. That right there is a gift. Being a slave you get to experience all kinds of work, not really knowing what you want to be, and the fact that he was a ship builder only made it that much more fun. The reason I say this is because he was on a ship to get from a different slaveholder to the next so he knows quit a bit i would guess.
Coments:
1. I really liked the fact that he was able to work. It gave me alot of hope for Douglass.
2. It takes alot of strength and courage to be in the situation that Douglass was in for most of his life.
Questions:
1. Why would someone say thier religious but yet are so mean and hateful?
2. Do you think that any of the slaveholders could take what they were doing to the slaves?

Eight, 9 & Ten(:
While I was reading this, I felt a lot of emotions. Mostly sadness & anger. I still am againnst slaves no matter what anyone says. I think its sad how many of Douglass' Masters or "friends" are dieing right before his eyes. He's losing quit a bit of people. I believe that (First paragraph, page 29) Douglass remembering where he was born is very important. I like that piecce of detail he decided to put in, because if i remember correctly most slaves didnt even remember the exact date of their birthday. I didnt know that Douglass knew he had other sibalings, I always thought he ws on his own because they never really talk about them untill chapter eight.
I think what part stood out to me the most out of everything was the fact that they were all ranked equel with the animals. To me yeah everyone should be treated equely but not in this way. I think every person is different and they need to embrace that but they cant if they are put in the same ranking as other animals. Pigs were children, cattle were women and men were horses. Its just sad to know how much our world has changed. When I believe nothing really should change THAT much. In a way im glad it did.
The fact that he went through so much and is still okay with every change, almost makes him a hero in my eyes. That was brutal, having to lose the one person who was ever truely kind to you in the whole time you were a slave. I look up to him and admire his strenght throughout his slave"hood".
Im not sure what my opinion on Mr. Covey is other than he was a ver mean man. He gave Douglass a severe whipping? Wow thats not very nice right? I dont like blood and making a man bleed because of the whipping, in our world would be abuse and there are fines and possibly jail time. I think its kinda cool Mr Covey prays.
Questions&Comments:
1. If his grandma was free why didnt she leave?
2. Would you rather be a slave or a Master?
I like how he was strong throughout all the people who died.
I believe that if Douglass were here today that i would have many questions.
Then again im not sure if i would want to know.
This reading got me a little confused; not gunna lie(:
Mr. B will you please help me?
I think what part stood out to me the most out of everything was the fact that they were all ranked equel with the animals. To me yeah everyone should be treated equely but not in this way. Questions&Comments Yooooo! hahah (5,6.7)
Why Hello class,
My partner is Katelyn Job!(:
Chapter 5
Katelyn's Question; Wht would Colones Lloyd send Douglass to Bailtamore if he knew it was such a great place full of oppertunities for him?
Her Comment; I enjoyed how hopefull this chapter was.
My Question; Why did the Colonel not give Douglass so much work? If he was able to work. . .
My Comment; I tohught it was sad how he was joyfull to leave the plantation.
Chapter 6
Katelyn's Question; If Douglass' mistress seemed to be such a genuinely kind woman, why do you think she changed in to such a meam person, instead of just discontinuing her teaching?
Her comment; I find it very interesting that Alas started teaching Douglass although he did not ask for it. In a way, she sparked a very important interst in his life that was very useful to him.
My Question;
My Comment; I tohught it was cool how he still got taught and kept reading after even his white master told him not to.
Chapter 7
Katelyn's Question; If the mistress was suspicious of Douglass reading, why do you think she still laft him alone at times? Do you think its possible that she knew and didn't stop it?
Her comment; Frederick Douglass was a very clever man.

My Reaction to 5,6 & 7(:
Chapter 5
I think its cool (page 21, first paragraph) how the Master Daniel lloyd treats him kinda nice. I took it as the Master sometimes sticks up for him and doesnt let the others to impose on him. Then it was like just the opposite because he wips him which isnt very nice. I dont think anyone should ever get wiped. I think its funny how then later they share cakes together. I know hes not bipolar but I believe the Master and Douglass have a relationship where he favors him more. I hate how he was naked for most the time because he didint have clothes or socks to wear. Thats crazy to me. I would feel soooooooo weird if I had to walk around 8 thousand people. To me clothes are essential. You absoultly need them, look at our world today. We have the no shoes, no shirt, no servie policy. Back then it was normal to be naked. I think id be ten times worse if you were self concious. I also think its sad that when he left the Colonel Lloyds platation he left with joy. To me I would want to stay in one place for a really long time and not have to worry about leaving and trying to fit in with those people that are there. Or adjust to what THAT master want from me. I respect that when he left it felt joy because probably leaving somewhere ment they were going to a better place, and I guess that was hopfull. He calls this departure the most interesting events of his life. (page 23 paragraph 3) I think what stood out most to me in this whole chapter was when he said (page 23 last paragraph), " I prefer to be true to mysel." To me its good thats hes thinking that and haveing a good attitude about the whole situation.
Chapter 6
He met a very kind woman and he was happy that there really was someone that could treat him good when he met her. There he learned the ABC's. (page 24 paragraph 3) I though in this paragraph was very men because the man of the house was saying sude things that i dont want to post. Basically saying it was unlawfull that slaves should read. Mr. Auld was saying that he is to obey his master and if he learns to read and write then he(douglass) really isnt a slave anymore because he's smarter than all the other slaves. Which in a way is true butt he could only make a better life for himself and I think thats a very good thing.
Chapter 7
He went to Master Hugh's fa,ily and he was there for seven years. He now knew how to read and write. He started reading a book in which he read whenever he could. To me this is just saying what the book is about and him realting this to the book. To be honest I cant even concentrate because ive been doing this for song long and my head hurts. This last chapter was hard for me to understand.

Amistad Reaction Blog
Well as far as slaves go, I still am not for them. I think talking bad about someone is horrible so haveing slaves is just like I cant even put it into words how bad this is. I honestly waned to cry, ive seen alot in my life and delt with alot butt I dont thnk anything has ever been as bad as what I just saw.
Would I jump off the ship? Good question. After seeing that mother fall off, purposly with her baby it was very sad. Im not sure what I would do in that situation. To me that was giving up. If im going to die and I know that then id rather go out with a bang. I would do everything in my power to either try to help even if I get no where. It was just an eye opener to me. I read the assingment for Boyds class and I thought that was bad, now I have an actual visual of what it was like. In a way im glad I saw that and I would like to see the actual movie. Not because i'm a sick person but because it helps me understand what is was really like.
If I had a baby while being on board, I am not sure what i would do. My life is a story butt haveing another life to take care of is another story as well. Its just really sad. And I thought being an adult was horrible, now a baby is even worse. They didnt even get to experience life to its fullest, its just sad. Now I really wont complain about my life because it could be so mch worse.

My reaction to 2, 3, and 4.
My reaction after reading chapters 2,3, and 4 were very shocked. The colonel llyod kep three to four hundred slaves on his home plantation, to have that many slaves it must have been big. Either that or it was small and made them suffer even more. I think its a bit outrageous that they get a monthly allowence of food and clothes for the year. In my opinion if i want a slave then i better treat them right. And the food could probably fill a family of four for a day, let alone a month. The clothing for the year couldnt go over seven dollars? Thats crasy, some of my shirts arent even seven dollars, thats like a buttom now a days. What gets worse is the childrens allowence. If they couldnt work then sometimes they would go naked untill the next allowence day? What iff it was like really cold and they had to wear clothes or if they were allergic to the sun.
I love my bed and to hear that slaves didnt even have a bed unless a blanket could be considered one was very sad. I have like 10 blankets, plus my confurter, plus my actual bed. Part of not having a bed was because they had no time to sleep. They would be too busy dgetting ready for the next day or trying to finish their chores. If the slaves didnt hear the sound of the horn to get up then they would get beat with a hickory stick and heavy cowskin.
All the medical operations were preformed in the country village.
Chapter 3
The colonel had all kinds of stratagems of how to keep the slaves out of the garden. It was filled with all kinds of fruit and if the slaves only get a monthly allowence of food obviously their gunna want to eat whatever food they find, thats what i would do. I think that if each leader or master has three or four hundread slaves then thats crazy and whats even worse is the masters led them to believe that they were the best not anyone else. So to me in a way its like setting them up to hate each other when they shouldnt.
Chapter 4
I think that even as the slaves are geting their monthly allowence of food and clothing that as they are going to the place they are singing. To me its very cool because you could be in the worst situation and still they are singing away as if its nothing. It was not even to rythm or tune. That to me was still keepin faith that things were gunna get better. Slaves sing most when hey are unhappy. and i kinda am the same wayt when im sad or hurting i sing and somehow it makes me feel better.
This is very sad. i dont even like slaves, because i feel like we shouldnt have them, its like treating someone like their nothing when they really are something. I understnad this so much more and i feel as if thats why im more interested in it and i want to keep reading it to find out more things about what happend in this time period.

My opinion on pages 1-12
In the first chapter I felt like I understood this so much better than te previous things we had to read. Frederick Douglas was an extrodinary man. To me when somone tells me to do something all the time it gets annoying. Could that be some sort or slavery? Doing something you dont want to do. . . Also when he was saying how some, if not all slaves dont even known when thier birthday is. Thats reay sad. My birthday is my favorit because its ll about me, and a day that can be expressed. If someone did remamber his/her birthday i wonder what would happen if they celebrated it r even if they celebrated it. It was weird that he didnt really have parents. I love my parensts so it would really suck if i didnt have any. His mom was never there and his dad could possibly have been his master. Im interested to see whats going to happen. The beginning was very cool how someone wrote him a letter an then it started his narative.
Homecoming wasnt that fun. It was like a couples dance. Everyone had a date. The music was good and everyone looked pretty. I started reading a book called Your Best Life Now by Joel Olsten. Its very inspirationalbook, and i reccamend it to anyone who needs some advice or inspiration. Even tho i havent read it all, the parts i have read are very very good.
